Transfer Market - Current Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is the favourite to succeed Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar at Old Trafford according to The News of the World.
The Dutch keeper who starred for Holland in the World Cup is said to be on United’s radar after Van der Sar nominated the stopper to replace him.
It is also believed that there were United officials in the stands on Tuesday night as Stekelenburg produced a man of the match display for the Dutch against Finland.
Stekelenburg has already replaced Van der Sar at international level and with the United keeper in the last year of his current contract, the Ajax stopper could soon be heading for Old Trafford.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has asked for Van der Sar’s help in the search for a keeper but it seems that the club are in no rush to make a move for a potential replacement.
Manchester United have had their fair share of goalkeepers over the years and recently sold Ben Foster to Birmingham City with current understudy Tomasz Kuszcak looking unlikely to live up to expectation at Old Trafford.
