England was playing Turkey in Istanbul in October 2003, and Alpay set out with the intention of winding up David Beckham. TV viewers saw Alpay repeatedly taunting Beckham, and when the England midfielder missed a penalty, Alpay was right in his face. At half time, a fight broke out between the two in the tunnell, allegedly involving several players from both sides.Alpay is a tall, tough tackling defender, who is more often used as a man marker. His performances caught the eyes of the biggest teams in Turkey.Then he played for Beşiktaş JK, Fenerbahçe SK, Aston Villa, Incheon United, Urawa Red Diamonds, 1.FC Köln. And Alpay made 87 appearances for the Turkish national team, netting four times.
